A case of Volkman´ s Ischmic Contracture due to supracondylar fracture of the humerus in children

Abstract

Recent incidence of the Volkman´s ischemic contracture which obtained from supracondylar fracture of the humerus in children tend to be decreased, Suggested as 5-10%. The specific mechenism of the supracondylar fracture and it´s displacement is anterior, posterior, internal or external. But when the anterior displacement more of the distall fragment (Extendion type), the contracture is frequent. The case discribed here: Ten years old boy sustained Volkman´ s ischemic contracture due to supracondylar fracture of the right humerus by trauma. Operation and physiotherapy with -metalic hand splint was done. After two years from the operation, completely recovered.
